How to cancel a Booking.com booking due to an invalid credit card

Once a credit card has been marked as invalid, the guest is notified by Booking.com and has 24 hours to provide alternative credit card details.  If arrival is within 48 hours, the guest is only allowed 4 hours to provide new credit card details.

Once this period ends, if the guest has not provided new card details, the property is able to cancel the booking.
This frees up the room(s), returning it to the available inventory, and allowing for new bookings to be accepted.

Cancel the booking

The 'Cancel on Booking.com' button is available on both the Booking Details and the Booking & Payment Status of a booking.

Open the Booking Details.

Once the time frame lapses, and the guest has not provided alternative credit card details via Booking.com, click on the booking to open the Booking Details.

You may notice that the 'Invalid CC' button has become active again. Why?

Before cancelling the booking, you may want to offer the guest a final opportunity to provide new credit card details.

  • Clicking the 'Invalid CC' button again will allow Booking.com to resend email communication to the guest, requesting new credit card details.

If you decide not to, proceed with cancelling the booking.

Click 'Cancel on Booking.com'

Click the 'Cancel on Booking.com' button on the Account panel of the Booking Details.

Confirm your action by clicking 'Yes' on the confirmation pop-up.

Once cancelled, a pop-up confirmation message will display.

 

Note that the 'Cancel on Booking.com' button will update to 'Cancelled Booking.com'.

The button will then be inactive.

Availability will update

Once cancelled, the availability for the specific room type, for the affected dates will automatically adjust to accept bookings.

via the Booking & Payment Status

Open the Booking and Payment Status

Click the 'Cancel on Booking.com' button.

Confirm your action by clicking 'Yes' on the confirmation pop-up.

Once cancelled, note that the 'Cancel on Booking.com' button will update to 'Cancelled Booking.com'.
The button will then be inactive.

Availability will update

Once cancelled, the availability for the specific room type, for the affected dates will automatically adjust to accept bookings.

Cancellation confirmation emails

Once cancelled, confirmation emails will be sent to the property and the guest.

Once Booking.com has communicated the cancellation to NightsBridge, NightsBridge will send you, the property, an email confirming the cancellation.
