A Basic Rate Discount is the most flexible discount type in NightsBridge. It allows you to discount your rates by a percentage for any reason, without applying special rules such as booking windows, minimum stay requirements, or lead-time conditions.
Because of this flexibility, the Basic Discount is ideal for general promotions, seasonal adjustments, and pricing changes that don’t fit into a specific discount category.
When Should I Use a Basic Rate Discount?
Use a Basic Rate Discount when:
- You want to run a general promotion (e.g. “Winter Special”, “Spring Sale”).
- You want to discount rates for a specific period without extra conditions.
- You want a promotion to apply regardless of when the guest books.
- You want the discount to apply automatically to qualifying online bookings.
- You want to send a promotion to multiple booking channels at once - to those that accept them.
If your discount does not depend on how early, late, or how long a guest stays, then a Basic Discount is usually the best choice.
Examples of When to Use a Basic Discount
| A Basic Rate Discount works well for: | |
|---|---|
| Seasonal promotions | “10% off all stays in June” |
| Marketing campaigns | “Autumn Special” shared on social media or email |
| Demand-based adjustments | Reducing rates during quieter periods |
| Short-term promotions | A weekend sale or limited-time offer |
How a Basic Discount Differs from Other Discount Types
| Discount Type | What Controls It |
|---|---|
| Basic Discount | Date range only |
| Early Bird | How far in advance the booking is made |
| Last Minute | How close the booking is to arrival |
| Long Stay | Minimum length of stay |
| Rate Grid | Day-by-day pricing adjustments |
| Promo Code | Private booking link |
How It Appears to Guests
On the NightsBridge Booking Engine
- Displayed in the Specials brochure.
- Shown during room selection.
- Original price is shown with a strike-through.
- Discount name is visible to guests.
On Booking Channels
- Most channels show only the final discounted rate.
- The discount may not be labelled as a promotion.
- This behaviour is controlled by the channel, not NightsBridge.
If the price is lower, the discount is working — even if it’s not visibly labelled.
Important Things to Keep in Mind
- Basic Discounts apply only to online bookings.
- Manual calendar bookings are not affected.
- If multiple discounts apply, the largest discount is used.
- A Rate Override may replace a Basic Discount if both apply to the same dates.
- Always check rate parity requirements before applying channel-specific discounts.
When Not to Use a Basic Discount
Do not use a Basic Discount if:
- You need a fixed price → use a Rate Override
- You want to reward early bookings → use Early Bird
- You want to fill last-minute gaps → use Last Minute
- You want to encourage longer stays → use Long Stay
- You want to send a private offer → use a Promo Code
