For bookers, 3D-Secure adds an extra layer of protection when booking accommodation online. This also protects clients (properties) against fraud and, in most cases - charge-backs, as this two-step authentication requires the cardholder to verify a transaction either by one-time-pin (OTP) or on their mobile banking app.
Why use 3D-Secure?
If you have 3D-Secure enabled, the booker is required to complete the two-step authentication process when processing the payment for the booking. The 3D-Secure process authenticates the card holder identity, before handing over the card details to the payment gateway for deduction
We recommend that you enable 3D secure for all your payments.
Not only are 3D-Secure transactions safer, the also benefit from lower card fees for transacting with South African cards (when compared to non 3D-Secure transactions).
The 3D-Secure transaction process
- The booker makes the booking and selects to pay by credit card.
- Once they have added and submitted their card details on the NightsBridge Booking Engine or via a credit card payment link, the 3D-Secure process is triggered.
- The card holder (booker) is then be required to either:
- enter the OTP (one-time pin) received via text or email as required
- accept the payment request via their banking app
This authentication process verifies the cardholders identity and the payment transaction is then attempted.
You will be notified of the status of the transaction once completed.
With 3D-Secure enabled, no payments transactions will be processed unless the card holder authorises the payment.
- When you access the Credit Card link, you will be asked if you want to create the link with 3D-Secure enabled.
- Select 'Yes' to create the link with the 3D-Secure process enabled.
