How to refund payments taken by debit card with NightsBridge Pay

Debit card transactions are processed differently to credit card transactions. Because of this, refunds for payments made by debit card should always be returned in the form of cash or by EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer).

Refunds to debit cards cannot be processed using NightsBridge Pay.

Refund the guest in cash or by EFT

If a debit card payment needs to be returned to a guest, we recommend:

  • Refund the guest in cash.
    Remember to get some form of proof or receipt of the refund.
  • Refund the guest by EFT.
    Get the guest's banking details and process an EFT .

What happens if you refund a debit card

When a refund is processed to the debit card, the credit will be allocated into a Suspense Account with the issuing bank.  

You will then need to contact the bank to trace and retrieve the credit which may be time consuming.
