How to Keep Your Property Safe from Credit Card Fraud

Scams and credit card fraud are an unfortunate reality in the accommodation industry, but you don't have to face them alone. While no system can prevent every dishonest attempt, taking a few practical steps can significantly reduce your risk and give you peace of mind

Here are four simple ways to protect your business and your payments:

Stay Alert to Suspicious Booking Behaviour

Trust your instincts when managing payments. Mismatched guest details, unusual booking requests, or sudden payment changes can be warning signs of fraud. Knowing what to look out for is your best first line of defence

Maintain a Solid Check-In Procedure

A clear check-in process does two vital jobs: it verifies that the person checking in is the legitimate cardholder, and it secures the documentation you need if a payment dispute arises after check-out.

  • Always verify the guest's ID against the credit card presented at arrival.
  • Keep signed registration forms and card receipts on file.

Set all payments to 3D secure

3D Secure adds a digital layer of protection to online bookings by requiring guests to verify payments directly with their bank (usually via an OTP or app notification).

We strongly recommend setting all your online payments to 3D Secure to safeguard your transactions.

Use a credit card checker or BIN list

If a card payment feels suspicious, a Bank Identification Number (BIN) check can help. A BIN lookup identifies the issuing bank and country, helping you catch discrepancies before completing a transaction
